http://research.microsoft.com/~ppsloan/ has a very good paper on lighting (and (self-)shadowing) called “Precomputed Radiance Transfer for Real-Time Rendering in Dynamic, Low-Frequency Lighting Environments”. very interesting. dariusz?

Competing for Annoyance
strato (my web-hoster) is now competing w/ creative about who annoys me most: for anyone that’s interested, here’s proof that it is most likely a creative-driver-bug occuring on my new & shiny tyan tiger mpx w/ 2 * athlon 1800+.
not fixed
update: creative soundblaster audigy still (sometimes) crashes in winamp (when releasing the wave-out device. got a stack-trace & everything, but i doubt the support will listen). i’d even sign an NDA, if they’d sent me the source so that i can fix it myself… :-/ but i doubt they’d do that.
played “grandia 2”
lots of it, in fact. excellent game. classical console rpg with a good (!) fighting system, where whacking buttons at lightning speed is of no importance. graphics are not impressive, but get a lot better later on. nice music. but they could’ve used something better than cinepac to compress their AVIs… oh, and did anyone else have a crash in the “defend”-tutorial (the only crash so far, i might add)?
uncooperative acpi
i’d still love to use hibernate. don’t know where the problem is… BootVis doesn’t write its log, /BOOTLOG only logs on a regular start-up (not a hibernate-resume). i’m stuck. even when i use all signed drivers (highpoint for adaptec 1200a, disable wintv), it freezes on resume. maybe the tyan-bios needs updated ACPI-tables?
symptomatic success
with the new winamp (2.79) the problem does not seem to occur anymore (new wave-out plug-in). that doesn’t mean it’s not there, creative… and why can’t you fix problems if they “only” occur in winamp? [edit: problem still there.]
valued customer
creative support says if soundblaster audigy wave-out crashes in winamp, i should just switch to direct-sound. _this_ is the sort of problem fixing i like. NOT!
