   thanks, i wanted to show someone who had a similar idea to area smoother that it was a bad idea and that it had already been done before, but you deleted it ;p
   the page with examples would have been nice for historical reference

   Well, as you say, it’s one of those things that sounds like a good idea, but actually isn’t; i.e. an inferior and convoluted implementation of a threshold-based smart blur.
   I have to admit I don’t remember ever having an examples page for it… 😛
