Sony Inzone H9 II Headset Impressions (PS5)

The headset itself is very light (e.g. compared to the Pulse Elite) and comfortable for me. I’m not sure about the (default) “FPS gaming optimized” sound profile yet.

The microphone sounds good, and it being detachable means you can use these as relatively inconspicuous (noise-cancelling) wireless headphones.

The integration with the PS5 is non-existent to lacking at best (particularly to the aforementioned Pulse Elite):

  • Doesn’t use PS Link but requires its custom (USB-C) transceiver.
  • Voice / Game balance can not be adjusted with the controls on the headset. (And no, setting the transceiver to “PC” doesn’t help).
  • Requires separate (not great) phone app to configure sound settings (equalizer etc.).
  • No synchronized mute status between console and headset.

For the price, that’s not a great for headset listed as “compatible with PlayStation 5”. Especially since its predecessor (H9) was better integrated with the PS5. If these weren’t my most comfortable (mainly due to low weight) pair of headphones I have, I probably would have returned them… 🙁

Aside: For the life of me, I cannot distinguish location and directionality when setting up a custom headphone 3D audio profile on the PS5. Although I felt like the default profile did work acceptably for me in Returnal, for example.
